karkhana
A workshop (Hindi/Persian: कारख़ाना). The things I'm building, learning and tinkering with, in the open: vehicles set up for power, radio and telemetry, the parts and plans for each, and what I learn about electronics along the way. Too many interests to explain in person, so they're written down here, with links that stay put.
What's here
- vehicles/: a 4Runner (power, fridge and solar telemetry, a rack of antennas for radio direction finding), a 1974 Ford F100 and a 1949 Chevrolet (dual batteries, Bluetooth audio, engine monitoring on a home-built CAN bus), shore power and scheduled block heaters, fox hunting on 2 m and 70 cm, and maybe one day a search and rescue rig, or a Baja race truck.
- projects/: all of it cut into work packages sized to an afternoon, a day or a weekend. Each is a physical bin of parts and a file that grows with interest: the menu, what to order, what I'm learning.
Related, separate repos: misra (a laptop's sensors cross-checked with logic rules, and the episodes that shaped it), jantar (a whole-machine dashboard), nixos-intel-npu.
Links that stay put
Pages are reached through short, permanent links on bench.mqqn.net, not through GitHub paths (those move when files do):
| Link | Goes to |
|---|---|
bench.mqqn.net/<CODE> |
a work package, e.g. /F100-F1, /DF-2 (the code on the bin's label) |
bench.mqqn.net/v/<vehicle> |
a vehicle: /v/4runner, /v/f100, /v/chevy-1949 |
bench.mqqn.net/learn |
the electronics learning map |
The rule: a code or link, once given out, is never reused for something else; when a page moves, its old link redirects. The QR codes on the bins point at these links, so a bin, its page and a link sent to someone are the same thing.
The site is shaped like a GNU Info manual: each page is a node with Next, Prev and Up
(keys n, p, u, t for Top, 1–9 for menu items), and the whole thing is also
one Info file, bench.mqqn.net/bench.info, for
info -f bench.info or Emacs.
How it's made
Plain Markdown in git, rendered to a small static site and deployed with the same tooling as my other sites. Private details (where things are, network specifics, keys) are kept out of this repo on purpose.
